Seamount is blessed to have dedicated coaches for each sport code. Our soccer, cricket, hockey and netball teams participate in matches and tournaments organised between Seamount and other schools in our district. Our learners enjoy their sport immensely and our teams fare well when competing against other schools.
Seamount Primary has an inter-house athletics meeting every year. This usually takes place at the end of the academic year. Learners who reach the top four positions in their respective events, begin to prepare for the following year’s inter-school zonal competition which could see our stronger competitors competing at a provincial level.
We are very proud to have provincial athletes in our school.

Ball skills are important for several reasons:
Sports Performance: In sports like soccer, basketball, or volleyball, ball skills are essential for effective handling, passing, and shooting. They enhance a player’s ability to control the ball, make accurate passes, and execute plays.
Coordination and Agility: Developing ball skills improves hand-eye coordination and overall agility. This can benefit other physical activities and daily tasks that require precise movement.
Cognitive Development: Engaging in activities that require ball skills can enhance cognitive functions such as concentration, spatial awareness, and problem-solving.
Overall, mastering ball skills can contribute to athletic success, physical fitness, and mental acuity.
Seamount has a long tradition of taking part in the Western Province Cricket Youth League. We have an u/9; combined u/10 & 11, and a combined u/12 & u/13 team. We enjoy hosting or travelling to other schools in our region. Although we are not a big school compared to others, we have managed to hold our own and beat bigger and stronger schools than us in the past. Some of our learners also do very well in cricket in high school, being selected for district teams and playing in senior teams because of their skills.
We hope that this tradition can continue as we are always so proud of our Seamount learners who excel beyond our borders.

Tennisette is another one of the many sports we offer at Seamount. A summer social sport played in Term 1 and Term 4, Tennisette is a fast paced sport for two or four players, using strength and stamina.
Our school’s Tenisette team has shown remarkable growth and dedication and we are incredibly proud of their efforts. Our students have developed a strong bond, supporting each other while enjoying the sport. The coaching staff do an excellent job in helping players refine their skills, leading to noticeable improvements.
Tennisette is a shining example of our school’s commitment to excellence.
In 2023 we decided to introduce table tennis as a new sports activity. In our inaugural year, we were thrilled to enter a team to represent our school in the Northern District. Remarkably, by the end of 2023, our team achieved extraordinary success by clinching the Gold in our league, marking a stellar beginning to our table tennis journey.
Following this triumph, the subsequent year saw us broaden our participation by entering two teams, a decision that paid off as both teams emerged victorious in their respective leagues. This back-to-back success further fuelled our passion for the sport, leading us to the current year, where we find ourselves eagerly navigating our third year of competing in table tennis.
The guidance, support, and expertise of our coaches have been pivotal in shaping our table tennis teams and fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and excellence within our school community.

Softball at Seamount Primary has gone from strength to strength, increasing in numbers each season. Although we have enjoyed being a part of league games, our focus is to show our learners that softball is more than just a game. It is a chance for them to learn and enhance new skills, make lasting friendships, and be part of a supportive and energetic team.
We begin each year with a large group of novice players. We see the excitement as they learn the ropes together and improve from week to week. Our welcoming environment is perfect for beginners, and the dedicated coaches are committed to helping each player find a love for the game.
The thrill of hitting a home run, making a game-winning catch, or working together to achieve victory, is what brings the increasing numbers each year. Our practices focus on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, ensuring that every learner has a fun and rewarding experience.
Hockey season at Seamount Primary is always a much anticipated time of the year. The intrigue of being part of an action packed sport that combines skill, strategy, and teamwork draws players of varying ability levels, eager to enjoy this ever-growing sport. Hockey provides our learners with the chance to improve their athletic ability and join an energetic group with like-minded goals.
Our coaches are not only committed to bringing out the hidden talents of our players, but also show true dedication to improving their coaching abilities. They attend the many externally offered coaching courses, allowing them to continually improve the standard of coaching.
Our younger players are exposed to various tournaments between neighbouring schools, showcasing their talent and representing our school. Our senior teams are provided the opportunity to prepare for high school sports, gaining valuable experience and building the confidence needed to excel at the next level.

Our enthusiasm for Netball has grown over the years. Our players have willingly invested their time to participate and enjoy the sport immensely. We are surrounded by amazingly skilled and talented players.
We have had many opportunities to play matches and attend tournaments and our players have such a competitive spirit, celebrating their wins and using their losses to strengthen their determination to do better the next time, never giving up.
Netball is not only a competitive game, but also a social place where learners come together and feel a sense of belonging.
Soccer has always been very popular with our learners. Soccer continues to grow every year and we have many teams taking part in the league. Our traditional 11-a-side has changed to 8-a-side which is very popular. Our learners in general have very good skills and develop these with the help of Sportswise.
Whether they win or lose, our learners are never deterred and approach every practice and game with complete enthusiasm and joy for the game.
